Accomplished character actor Peter Falk became a star in the early 1970s when he took on the role of Los Angeles homicide detective Lt. Columbo. The shabby raincoat and low key determination made him instantaly recognisable and unforgettable. Columbo became a household name and is still recognised tpday - 50 years later! Peter Falk as Columbo is an icon! 
One of those special cases where it is impossible to imagine any other actor in the role. 
Columbo was always a series of 90 minute TV movies, which allowed for greater time in writing the intricate and ingenious scripts.
